Ingredients

  • 2 cup cabbage chopped
  • 2 tbsp red chili powder
  • pinch Ajinomoto optional
  • salt to taste
  • pinch food color
  • 3 tbsp maida
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • oil deep-fry
  • 1 medium size onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup capsicum
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp red chili sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp green chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Take a mixing bowl, add 2 cups of chopped cabbage, 1 tbsp red chili powder, a pinch of Ajinomoto, salt to taste, a pinch of food color, 3 tbsp maida, 3 tbsp cornflour one by one and mix well without water, because cabbage itself will release some water.

  2. Heat the oil in a pan for deep fry. Make small balls of the mixture (step 1) and drop them slowly in the oil on medium flame. Fry them until they become golden brown in color. Take them out on a kitchen towel and keep aside.

  3. Heat a pan and add 1 tbsp oil, 1 medium size chopped onion and saute. Add 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste and saute well again. Add 1/4 cup capsicum, 2 tbsp tomato sauce, 1 tbsp red chili sauce, 1.5 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp green chili sauce, 1 tbsp vinegar and combine well.

  4. Add 1/4 tbsp red chili powder, a pinch of salt, 2 tbsp of coriander leaves and mix well. Now slowly add all the fried cabbage balls (step 2) and combine them well. Turn off the flame.

  5. The spicy homemade Cabbage Manchurian is ready to serve with some tomato sauce.

Recipe Notes

  • Adding Ajinomoto is optional, but it adds good taste if used.
  • Don't add too much salt in step 4, because sauces consist decent amount of salt already.
