Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1/4 tbsp pepper
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 green cardamom
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 2 cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 tbsp dried coconut
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 onion medium size chopped
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup carrot
  • 1/4 cup beans
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1/4 cup potato
  • 1/4 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tomato medium size chopped
  • 1 glass rice
  • salt to taste
  • water as required

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan, add 1 tbsp oil, 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1/4 tbsp pepper, 1 star anise, 1 black cardamom, 1 green cardamom, 2 cinnamon, 2 cloves and fry till it releases a nice aroma. Add 1 tbsp dried coconut and mix well. Allow it to cool.

  2. Add the spices (step 1) in the blender and grind to a powder. Keep it aside.

  3. Take a cooker and add 2 tbsp oil, 1 bay leaf, 1 medium size chopped onion, 2 green chilies and fry till the onions get reddish in color. Now add 1 tbsp of ginger-garlic paste and mix well.

  4. Additionally, put 1/4 cup carrot, 1/4 cup beans, 1/4 cup green peas, 1/4 cup potato and mix well together.

  5. Now let's add 1/4 tbsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tbsp red chili powder and add the powdered masala (step 2) and mix well. Add 1 medium size chopped tomato and fry till the tomato softens.

  6. Add 1 glass of washed rice without water and combine well. Add 2 glasses of water and salt to taste. Mix well and wait for one boil. Close the lid and continue to cook on the medium flame for 2 whistles.

  7. Turn off the flame, mix gently. Enjoy the hot yummy Masala Bath with cucumber and salad.

Recipe Notes

  • Cooking in the cooker makes the process faster, hence saves time.
  • Consider adding 2 glasses of water for each glass of rice.
