  • 1.5 cup dosa rice
  • 1/2 cup urad dal
  • 1 tsp methi
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • oil as required
  • salt to taste
  • water as required


  1. Take dosa rice in a bowl put urad dal methi wash with clean water and soak for 6 hours.
  2. After 6 hours drain the water and put into a jar add 1/2 cup of water grind to smooth batter.
  3. Transfer to a large vessel, mix well with hand.

  4. Cover and ferment in a warm place for 12 hours.
  5. After 12 hours add salt to taste and mix well. You can see the batter has raised well indicating its well fermented.

  6. Heat a dosa tava pour a ladleful of the batter.
  7. Once the top of the dosa has cooked apply 1 tsp of oil and butter on dosa, keep on medium flame.
  8. Once the one side of dosa has cooked flip it apply some butter if you want.
  9. Put a spoon of potato curry inside serve hot.

Recipe Notes

  • You can add sugar to get golden colour dosa 
  • Blending leftover rice and adding to the batter will give restaurant style texture.
