Ingredients

  • 2 carrots medium size chopped
  • 1 onion medium size chopped
  • 1 inch ball size tamarind soaked in water
  • 1 cup french beans chopped
  • 1 potato medium size chopped
  • 3 tbsp bisibele bath powder
  • 1 tbsp ground nuts soaked 6 hours
  • ¼ cup peas soaked over night
  • ½ cup toor dal
  • 2/3 cup rice
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 glasses water
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder

for tempering:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • curry leaves few
  • 2 dried red chillies
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • pinch hing

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker add rice of 2/3 cup, 2 cups of water and cook until 2 whistles and keep aside
  2. In a pressure cooker add dal, potato, carrot,onion, beans, peas, groundnuts, 3 glasses of water and turmeric, few drops of oil and mix, cover it and cook for 2 whistles
  3. Now in a large cooking bowl, add boiled vegetables, curry leaves, bisibele bath powder and mix
  4. Add tamarind extract, red chilli powder mix and cook for 2 minutes on low flame
  5. Finally add boiled rice and mix well. Mix carefully do not break the rice grains
  6. Add salt, a glass of water and mix and cook for 2 minutes on medium flame
  7. Now in a pan heat oil to prepare tempering, add mustard seeds, hing, dried chilli allow them to splutter
  8. Pour tempering into the prepared bisibele bath mix well
  9. Serve hot with chips or mixture

Recipe Notes

  •  You can add  your choice of vegetables and cook vegetables, dal and rice separately, later combine and simmer for more flavours.
  •  You can even use left over rice for making bisi bele bath.
