Here is a easy way of making soft rava idly, idlis are one of the healthiest and famous breakfast recipe of south india, can be eaten and served with Sambar, chutney and vade.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup idli rava
  • ½ cup urad dal
  • some oil
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp curd

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, wash urad dal with water and clean, soak it in enough water for 5-6 hours
  2. Rinse the idli rava in water, wash and soak for 2 hours
  3. Drain the water well from idli rava, by squeezing with hand drain excess water from it, add curd in it and keep aside
  4. In a jar add urad dal and water, in 1:1 ratio, grind into smooth and fluffy batter
  5. Mix batter well with squeezed idli rava. Mixing the batter with your hand is recommended to make sure there are no lumps in the batter, Cover and ferment in warm place for at least 10 to 12 hours

  6. You can see the batter has raised slightly indicating it is well fermented. Now add salt and mix
  7. In the steamer pour some water and boil, mix batter and pour in the idli moulds, place the idli stands in the steamer
  8. Cover the lid and steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes, keep on medium flame
  9. Prick with knife to check if idlis are cooked, take out idlies using a spoon easily. Serve hot with chutney and sambar
