Ingredients

  • ½ cup moong dal soaked 10 minutes
  • 1 medium size capsicum chopped
  • 2 medium size tomatoes chopped
  • 2 slit green chillies
  • 1 medium size potato chopped
  • ¼ cup carrot chopped
  • ¼ cup onion chopped
  • 4 tbsp peas soaked overnight
  • ½ cup rice
  • 1 bay leave
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 cardamom
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ cup coriander leaves
  • 3.5 cup water
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a cooker, add bay leave, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, cumin seeds, keep on medium flame and fry for a minute
  2. Now add onion, green chilli, saute and soften the onion, then add ginger & garlic paste and fry till the raw smell disappears, stir in between
  3. Add tomato and mix well, fry and soften the tomato
  4. Now add carrot, capsicum, peas, potato, mix well and saute for 2 minutes, stir occasionally
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, coriander powder, salt to taste and mix well
  6. Now add soaked moong dal, washed rice and mix well, fry for a minute to get a good taste, then add 3.5 cup of water, coriander leaves mix well and cover the lid, cook for 3 whistles
  7. Once the pressure released itself, open the lid and serve hot kichadi with curd or pickle

Recipe Notes

  • Add water depending on the consistency you want .
