Ingredients

  • ½ cup Fresh coconut chopped
  • 2 tbsp roasted gram
  • pinch tamarind soaked
  • ½ inch ginger chopped
  • coriander leaves few
  • ½ tsp sugar optional
  • 3 green chillies
  • water to blend as required
  • Salt to taste

For tempering

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp gram dal
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • few curry leaves few

Instructions

  1. In a jar put coconut, roasted gram, sugar, chillies, ginger, coriander leaves, salt and tamarind, water as required
  2. Grind it
  3. Prepare the tempering by heating oil in a pan, add cumin, mustard seeds, allow to splutter then add gram dal, urad dal and roast, now add red chilli, curry leaves, hing and mix and fry, then keep aside to cool
  4. Finally pour the tempering over the chutney
  5. Mix well. Serve with akki roti, idli, dosa, rice etc

  • Use fresh coconut for more juicy and flavoured chutney
  • Gram dal for restaurant style coconut chutney recipe.
