Ingredients

  • 4-5 medium size tomato
  • 2 tsp rasam powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • few coriander leaves chopped
  • salt to taste
  • water as required

For tempering:

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 pinch hing / asafoetida

Instructions

  1. Score the tomatoes, cut in ‘X’ shape, so you can peel tomato skin easily. Put tomatoes in cooker add 3 cups of water, cover the lid and cook for 2 whistles
  2. Once the pressure released itself, take out the tomatoes and peel off the all tomatoes skin, mash with a masher
  3. Filter the mashed tomato and remove the seeds
  4. Now put back tomato boiled water present in the cooker to the filtered tomato
  5. Now add rasam powder, red chilli powder, salt to taste and mx well and keep on high flame, boil for 5 minutes

Tempering:

  1. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, red chillies, curry leaves, hing, mix and allow to splutter
  2. Now combine rasam with tempering, add coriander leaves and turn off the flame, serve hot with rice

Recipe Notes

  • You can use garlic for tempering
