Ingredients

  • ½ cup onions
  • 2 green chillies
  • 2 to mato medium size chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • ½ cup lobia(cow peas)
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • curry leaves few
  • 4 garlic
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • water as required

Instructions

  1. First rinse the lobia (cow peas) in water.
  2. In a pressure cooker add rinsed lobia,1 and half cup of water and salt to taste cover the lid and cook for 3 whistles
  3. Once the pressure released itself make sure lobia is cooked
  4. In a jar add green chillies and garlic grind for 5 seconds make paste.
  5. Heat oil in a pan add mustard cumine seeds curry leaves and allow to splutter.
  6. Then add onions saute till they turn translucent. Add chilli-garlic paste turmeric and mix well keep on medium flame.
  7. Add tomato and salt mix well cover the lid and simmer for a minute
  8. Open the lid and mix well and add cooked lobia along with its water mix well.
  9. Cover the lid and simmer for a minute
  10. mix and serve hot with roti or chapati.

Recipe Notes

  • You do not have to soak Lobia / cow peas  because they can be cooked directly  
  • If you want cook the black  eyed peas curry quickly, use pressure cooker .
