Ingredients

  • ½ cup toor dal
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • Few curry leaves
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • 8 garlic cloves
  • salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1 to mato medium size chopped
  • 1 onion medium size chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 pinch hing
  • 1 bunch methi (fenugreek) chopped
  • Water as reuired

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker add toor dal, 1 and half glass of water, few drops of oil cook till 2 whistles
  2. Open the lid and mash the dal with a masher and keep aside
  3. Heat oil in a pan add mustard, cumin seeds, garlic and allow to splutter then add curry leaves, red chilli and mix well, add pinch of hing and mix well
  4. Now add onion and green chillies saute for a minute, then add tomato and saute till it turns soft and mush

  5. Now add turmeric, red chilli powder and salt saute for a minute on low flame now add 1 bunch of chopped methi, fry for 2 minutes on low flame till the methi leaves shrinks
  6. Now add cooked and mashed toor dal and mix well, you can add water if required to adjust the consistency, cover the lid and simmer for 5 minutes. Mix well, serve with rice or roti
