Ingredients

  • 1 cup toor dal soak for 10 minutes
  • 2 cup spinach leaves chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 cup water
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • few curry leaves
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 dry red chilli
  • 10 garlic cloves
  • 1 pinch hing
  • 1 lemon sized tamarind
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1.5 tsp cumin seeds
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a cooker add toor dal, palak leaves, green chilli, tamarind, 5 garlic cloves, 4 curry leaves, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 3 cups of water or as you required, mix well and add 1 tsp of oil, cover the lid and cook for 4 whistles
  2. Once the pressure released itself, mash with a masher
  3. Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, mix well and boil for 2 minutes

Tempering:

  1. Heat oil in a pan add mustard and cumin seeds, garlic, dry red chilli, curry leaves, hing and fry for a minute
  2. Pour tempering on dal and mix well, serve with roti, chapati or rice
