Tomato chutney | Chutney for idli dosa

Ingredients

  • 3 tomatoes medium size chopped
  • 3 red chillies
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • ¼ tsp fenugreek seeds
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Tempering:

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp gram dal
  • 1 pinch hing
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • few curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan, add gram dal, urad dal, fenugreek seeds, red chillies fry until golden brown
  2. Now add garlic, tomato, fry till the tomato will be soft, until it shrinks completely
  3. Now add turmeric, sugar, salt to taste and combine all and turn off the flame and allow it to cool
  4. Now add into a jar and blend to smooth paste, do not add water

Tempering:

  1. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, hing and allow it to splutter and pour on the chutney
  2. Serve with idli, dosa or rice

Recipe Notes

  • Saute the tomatoes till water evaporates completely. else the chutney will taste raw.
