Ingredients

  • 4 small size Tomatos chopped
  • ½ cup Toor dal soak 10 minuutes
  • 1 medium size onion chopped
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • ¼ cup Tamarind extract
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp musterd seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • 4 crushed garlic
  • Curry leaves few
  • water as required

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker add soaked dal, onion, tomato, turmeric, chilli powder, tamarind also add 1 tsp oil one cup of water and mix well. You can add more water if you want.
  2. Cover the lid and cook for 3 whistles.
  3. Once the pressure is released by itself open the lid add salt to taste and mash gently with masher.
  4. To prepare temparing heat oil in a pan.
  5. Add cumin, mustard seeds, garlic, red chilli, curry leaves, asafotida and saute for a minute keep on medium flame.
  6. Pour the temparing over the pappu.
  7. Serve hot with rice.

Recipe Notes

  • Cook dal completely, else it will be difficult to mash.
